In Venezuela, Aquiles Sistemas de Información, ASI C.A, teamed up with major oil companies and industry organisations like the Petroleum Chamber and the Alianza Empresarial Petrolera (Petroleum Industry Business Alliance) to launch a procurement system to facilitate the flow of business to local suppliers and contractors.

Venezuela has the largest oil and gas reserves in the western hemisphere. These reserves are spread throughout the country from Maracaibo in the west to the Orinoco delta and the Deltana offshore gas fields in the east. Between these is the vast band of tar sands called the 'Faja de Orinoco'.
