Link-up v.2 Goes Live!

The long-heralded Link-up v.2 service for the rail industry has officially 'opened for business' - and first to sample the enhanced service are suppliers.

With their new log-on details, suppliers are now able to access the Achilles website where they can complete the e-questionnaires. Each of these is dynamic, directing suppliers to specific questions based on the product codes that they have selected.

The product codes themselves are completely new, reflecting and aligning with Network Rail's asset and project structure. The approach means suppliers can now be more focused, choosing codes that more accurately reflect and target the services they offer. When the next phase goes live, buyers will be able to search using these same codes and be more specific when matching supplier capability to project requirements.

The new questionnaires have been completely redesigned and incorporate feedback from industry testing carried out in December last year.

The Achilles team, led by Andy Harrison, Director - Rail and Transport, has worked closely with Network Rail's team led by Stuart Norfolk (C&P Manager, Supplier Qualification and Assurance) to develop and deliver the enhancements.

"This represents a significant evolution in supplier qualification in the rail industry and will allow suppliers to focus on the services they want to offer to the buyer community," said Andy.

The next step in the process will be the addition of supplier details onto the new database. This will happen over the next few months as the new on-line questionnaires are completed by suppliers.

Commented Stuart Norfolk: "Network Rail has invested heavily in the development of v.2 as our preferred means of supplier qualification. We are undertaking a comprehensive programme of briefing and training to ensure that Network Rail Contracts and Procurement professionals are able to exploit the many new benefits of the updated system in the development of sourcing strategies."
